Track and Field Hosts VMI Team Challenge Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. – With one meet hosted and out of the way, the VMI track and field teams prepare for another this weekend as the Keydets play host to 10-12 other schools Saturday for the VMI Team Challenge at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Unlike the Keydet Invitational last weekend, the VMI Team Challenge will tally up the points received from the individual events and total them to yield team scores.

VMI looks to build upon several personal records and a school record time in the women's 4x400 to improve from last week's event. Sarah Leckman was named the SoCon women's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the shot put and weight throw events.

“I think that as a group we are a pretty young team, so for many this was not only their first meet of the season, but also their first collegiate meet ever,” said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. “I expect that some of the nervousness has settled and we had a really good full week of practice. I am excited to see many improvements this week.”

The Keydets look to compete with increased confidence and determination this weekend.

“We need to embrace the opportunity, and to not fear failure or success,” Webb said. “From a physical standpoint we are just trying to get back into practice after Christmas break and continue to keep our heads down stacking one good day of practice onto another. I believe that success comes within the process, and that the results will take care of themselves if you do that.”
