Lacrosse Takes on Mount St. Mary's in Maryland

LEXINGTON, Va. – Entering this weekend with momentum following last week's victory over NJIT, the VMI lacrosse team returns to action Saturday with an away game at Mount St. Mary's slated for a noon start in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Freshman Ryan Perouty leads the Keydets (1-1) with six goals through just two games and looks to continue the scoring trend this weekend. Senior attack Wesley Sanders has also been impressive with five goals on the year as both Sanders and Perouty logged four goals over NJIT last Saturday.

Sophomore John Daniel has scored three goals thus far and freshman Jon Fant has two to his credit. Austin Henry and Anthony Moran also have one goal apiece for the Keydets. Junior John O'Donnell leads the team with two assists so far.

Freshman Bill Osteen (1-1) will start in the circle for VMI and looks to preserve the net as he has 22 saves early on with 71 shots faced.

About the Mount (1-4)

The Mount owns a 1-4 record on the year but has suffered close losses to Delaware (16-12), No. 18 Towson (15-13) and Richmond (13-10) while topping UMBC by a 16-7 count. On Tuesday the Mount took a respectable 16-6 loss on the road at No. 17 Georgetown.

Mount St. Mary's features a host of scorers but are led by Chris DiPretoro, Luke Frankeny and Stephano Mastro who each have 10 apiece through five games. Brenden McCarthy has nine on the year while Matt Haggerty has six to his name. McCarthy is a proven facilitator with nine assists and is trailed by five from Joe Bethke. DiPretoro and Haggerty both have four assists.

Jack Mangan leads the defensive efforts with eight caused turnovers while Bryan McIntosh has six. Luke Mutterer has seen the most time as goalie with 165 minutes but Matt Vierheller has seen significant time with 105 minutes in the circle. Mutterer has surrendered 30 goals but has 30 saves on the year while Vierheller has allowed 34 goals and has 20 saves.
