Logan's School Record Paces VMI at Home Meet

LEXINGTON, Va. - A new school record in the women's high jump led VMI track and field at the VMI Team Challenge, contested Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility on VMI Post in Lexington, Va.

Julia Logan cleared 1.70 meters (5'7") on her third and final attempt to not only win the high jump, but break the previous record of 5'5 3/4", which had been accomplished twice previously, but not since 2005. Logan also punched her ticket to the ECAC Championships with the clearance.

One of the other standouts Saturday was Kerisha Goode, who finished third in both the 60-meter dash (7.76) and the 200 (24.93). The 200 was a battle between Goode, Ty-Leah Hampton of Western Carolina and Kyra Atkins of ETSU, all of whom are expected to be in the mix for the conference title next month.

The women's 800 was also kind to the Keydets, as Christina Hill finished second in 2:18.59 and Logan Luckett was right behind, placing third in 2:18.65. Luckett was also fourth in the mile (5:13.72).

The final event of the day, the women's shot put, saw Tiffany Quick finish third (13.30 M/43'8") and Sarah Leckman place fifth (12.64 M/41'6"). Other results included Ariana Ruffin's third-place finish in the 400 (58.77) and Bethany King finishing third in the 3K (10:19.79).

On the men's side, it was Lee Warren once again leading the way, as he finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. Andrew Arlint also recorded a fourth-place finish, thanks to his 4.50 meters (14'9") clearance in the pole vault.

"I was pleased with our performances today," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "Julia Logan did an outstanding job and has worked hard to get to this point. I look forward to seeing what she accomplishes down the road, as I do with Kerisha Goode, who had an exciting battle with some fellow conference contenders today. Now, we will regroup and train hard for the Winter Relays in two weeks."

VMI track and field will return to action Feb. 9, when the Keydets host the opening day of the VMI Winter Relays at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
