LEXINGTON, Va. - Tiffany Quick's fifth-place finish in the women's shot put led the VMI track and field team on the final day of the Keydet Invitational, contested Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va. The action wrapped up the first invitational meet at VMI's new facility.
Quick hurled the implement 13.37 meters (43'10 1/2") to post the fifth-place result, three spots ahead of her teammate Sarah Leckman's eighth-place finish (12.82 M/42'0 3/4").
Saturday's action also saw Kerisha Goode and Lee Warren return to action after posting ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks Friday. Goode finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a 25.03 effort, while Warren was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.27).
In addition, Levi Whitt finished ninth in the long jump with a best leap of 6.50 meters (21'4") and Logan Luckett was eighth in the 800-meters with a personal best of 2:19.62.
The non-Keydet story of the day came in the women's mile, where two of the fastest 25 Division I mile times so far this season happened in the quick heat, led by Rachel Pocratsky of Virginia Tech posting a 4:44.83 to rank 12th in D1.
"I'm very pleased with the way this meet went," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "We had multiple IC4A/ECAC qualifiers - Kerisha Goode and Lee Warren - and got good results today in the shot put. In addition, our staff did a great job putting the meet on and we saw some very fast times recorded as well, which is exciting. We look forward to more great competition next weekend!"
VMI track and field will return to action January 27, when the Keydets host the VMI Team Challenge at the Corps Physical Training Facility. Admission to the meet is free.
