Peterson Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - VMI's QJ Peterson has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 24-30. Peterson averaged 30.5 points, grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game and shot 63 percent from the field last week as the Keydets split a pair of games against Chattanooga and Samford.

Peterson scored a season-high 40 points and added six rebounds in an 80-64 win at Chattanooga last Wednesday (Jan. 25). He was 15-of-19 from the field and made 7-of-9 3-point field goals in the win over the Mocs. He became just the second player in school history to record two 40-point games in his career, joining Reggie Williams (2005-08).

In Saturday's two-point loss to Samford (69-67), Peterson scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The senior leads the Southern Conference with 20.0 points per game and is averaging 21.9 points in league contests. His 2.7 made triples per game is tied for the third-highest mark in the conference.

VMI (5-15, 2-7 SoCon) returns to action Thursday (Feb. 2) when the Keydets host ETSU (17-5, 7-2 SoCon).
