Keydets and The Citadel to Open CPTF Saturday

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, when the Keydets play host to The Citadel Bulldogs in a dual meet that will open VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and admission to the proceedings is free.

How to Follow

Fans can follow along with the action via live stats, provided by Snap Timing.

Scoring Method

The meet will be contested as two duals - VMI men vs. Citadel men and VMI women vs. Citadel women - with a scoring method of 5-3-2-1 for the top four finishers in an event. Only the top two competitors from each team will score points. For relays, the scoring will be 5-3 with only the top finishing team from each school scoring.

First in Nearly 20 Years

This will be VMI's first dual track meet since 1998, when the Keydets faced Virginia Tech during the outdoor season.

Events to Watch

Men's 60-Meter Hurdles

This shapes up as a showdown between Citadel's Malik Diggs and VMI's Lee Warren - Diggs, last year's conference's runner-up in the 110 hurdles outdoors, opened his indoor season with a fourth-place finish at Wake Forest. Warren, meanwhile, ran an 8.49 and finished 14th in a field that saw four IC4A qualifiers at Liberty.

Men's Shot Put

Grant Sanchez was sixth in this event at the season opener (14.75 meters/48'4 3/4"), and he will take on sophomore Ja'lon Williams here. Williams threw the shot 14.73 meters in Citadel's opener at Wake Forest, and was 10th in the conference during last season's outdoor campaign.

Men's 200-Meters

Citadel's Josiah Johnson was the runner-up at 100-meters and finished fifth at 200 at last year's SoCon Outdoor Championships. The winner of both races? VMI's Greg Henderson, and they will go head to head in the second of two heats here.

Women's 3,000-Meters

Logan Luckett makes her indoor track debut at this meet, and perhaps the best opposing matchup she'll have will be with Caillan Colquitt. Colquitt was 33rd at the conference cross country championships this past October, where Luckett was 17th. In addition to the 3K, where the two are favored to battle for first place, both are entered in the mile, where VMI's Bethany King is the possible favorite.

Next Time Out

After a week off, VMI returns to action at the Marshall Invite the weekend of Feb. 10.
