VMI cross country will open its 2016 season on Friday, when the Keydets travel to Boone, N.C. to take part in the Covered Bridge Open. Action gets underway with the women's 5K at 5:30 p.m., while the men's 6,400-meter race will follow thereafter. Course maps and meet information are available below.

Familiar Location

This marks the fourth consecutive season in which VMI has opened the year at the Covered Bridge Open. Avery Martin, who returns for his final season of eligibility in 2016, was 14th for the Keydets last season at this event. 

Increased Depth

The VMI women's program opens the year with 11 runners on its roster, a departure from last season. The Keydets ran just six runners at all five of the regular season races last year, and hope that their increased depth leads to positive results on the course. 

Next Time Out

Following Friday's race, VMI cross country will return to action Saturday, Sept. 10, when the Keydets take part in the JMU Invitational. Action at the New Market Battlefield is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
