JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ahead 2-0 early in the game, the VMI lacrosse team allowed nine unanswered goals the remainder of the first half for host Jacksonville to escape to a 14-2 victory Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Keydets (2-11, 0-4) got off to a quick start with goals from Cody Sheetz and Wesley Sanders in the first six minutes of the first period, but Jacksonville got rolling at the 6:00 mark to rattle off three goals of its own to end the quarter. The Dolphins (3-8, 1-3) continued the momentum throughout the second quarter to score six more goals to go into the break with a 9-2 advantage.
The pace slowed down in the second half but VMI was unable to notch anymore goals while the Dolphins tallied five more en route to the win.
Mitchell Parker led Jacksonville with three goals while Dakota Rohlin, Chase Miller and Evan Tyler each contributed two.
Chris Spade paced VMI with eight shot attempts while Brad Nardella (7) and Tom Nofi (6) were also key contributors to the Keydet attack. Sheetz and Sanders finished the game with five shots apiece. Kyle Walsh led VMI with four groundballs and two caused turnovers with James Walsh causing two more.
VMI continues Southern Conference action next Saturday, April 16, with a noon matchup against Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
