HIGH POINT, N.C. - Jordan White moved into the top three in the SoCon in two events and Greg Henderson led a solid day for VMI sprinters, pacing the VMI men's track and field teams at the final day of the HPU Vertklasse Meet, contested Saturday in High Point, N.C.
White finished 14th in the hammer (53.12 M/174'3"), which is good enough for the conference lead, and 17th in the discus (44.35 M/145'6"), which is the third-best mark in the SoCon early this outdoor season.
Henderson, meanwhile, was fifth in the participation section of the 100, with a time of 10.85 seconds. Henderson's time was the 15th-fastest overall of the day, including those who participated in the fast section. He also finished 10th in the participation 200 (22.12), and teamed with Quan Myers, Pete Reed and Aron Long to finish fourth in the 4X100-meter relay (41.90).
Desmond Weinberg-Jones had a strong day as well, including a ninth-place finish in the main draw of the 400-meter hurdles (55.87). Weinberg-Jones also finished seventh in the participation sections of the 110-hurdles, timing in at 15.39 seconds.
Lee Warren was seventh in the fast section of the 110-meter hurdles, timing in at 14.85, four spots ahead of Brian Donna's 11th-place result (15.20). Pete Reed was 11th in the 100-meter participation (10.94) and 23rd in the 200 (22.45).
Finally, Jay Broom was 11th in the fast section of the 1,500, as he crossed the line in 4:00.74 and Long was 13th in the main draw of the 100 (10.92) and 200 (22.96).
VMI track and field will return to action April 9, when the Keydets travel to Fairfax to take part in the George Mason Invite.
