YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Kerisha Goode shattered the school record in the 200-meters and finished second in the 60-meters, pacing the VMI women's track and field team at the final day of the YSU National Invite, contested Saturday in Youngstown, Ohio.
Goode clocked in at 25.36 in the 200 to set the new VMI mark and finish fourth overall in the event. She broke Shelly Mackall's previous school record of 25.77 by over four-tenths of a second, a mark that had stood since 2005.
Goode was also the runner-up in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.84 seconds. Mia McClain finished sixth in 7.99.
Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe also had a podium finish Saturday, as the sophomore finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds. Brenea Thomas finished 10th in the triple jump - 11.01 M/36'1 1/2" - and posted the fourth-best jump in VMI history in the process. Thomas now ranks seventh in the SoCon in the event.
Finally, Bethany King was ninth in the mile with a clocking of 5:13.88 and Christina Hill finished eighth in the 800. Hill's time of 2:18.29 moved her to fourth on the all-time VMI listings in the event.
"I thought both our teams were excellent today, as they combined for over 40 seasonal bests," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "Kerisha Goode was excellent, setting the new school record in the 200, and I look forward to seeing what our entire team does to build on this weekend as we go to Winston-Salem Thursday."
VMI track and field will return to action Thursday, when the Keydets take part in the High Point Team Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
