SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Three VMI Keydets - Joel Hoisington, Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe and Bria Anderson - earned SoCon Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors as the conference announced the laurels Wednesday. Hoisington was the Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while Agyepong-Wiafe and Anderson swept the women's honors.
Hoisington claimed the men's field honor with a SoCon-leading 16.33-meter (53'7”) shot-put effort at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday, which was good for a fifth-place finish at the meet. The redshirt senior from Annandale, Va., also recorded a toss of 13.55 meters (44'5”) in the weight throw.
Agyepong-Wiafe earned the women's track distinction by clocking a time of 8.83 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday. That time ranks third in the league. The sophomore from Woodbridge, Va., also registered a time of 7.84 seconds in the 60-meter dash, which is 10th-best among conference competitors.
Anderson, meanwhile, stretched the tape to 5.66 meters (18' 7”) in the long jump for the Keydets on Friday. That mark came up just short of her season-best jump of 5.71 meters (18'9”), which ranks third in the league.
VMI track and field will continue its indoor season Friday, when the Keydets open the SoCon Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
