SPARTANBURG, S.C. - VMI's Avery Martin has been named the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, according to information released by the SoCon Wednesday. 

Martin won the 1,500-meter race at the Fred Hardy Invitational last weekend with a time of 3:50.00. The junior's time ranks fourth in the SoCon, 22nd on the NCAA East list and was an IC4A qualifying time. It was the seventh-fastest time in school history. 

VMI track and field will return to action Friday, when the Keydets open competition at the HPU Vertklasse Meet in High Point, N.C.
