BOSTON, Mass. - VMI's Quincy Murphy sits fifth after day one of the IC4A heptathlon, contested Friday at Boston University in Boston, Mass.
Murphy, who finished the day with 2,783 points, posted one of the top six marks in each of the first day's events save one, the long jump, where he was seventh. He started his day with a 7.29 clocking in the 60-meter dash, jumped 6.43 meters (21'1 1/4") in the long jump, threw the shot 12.28 meters (40'3 1/2") and cleared 1.88 meters (6'2") in the high jump.
Mike DiMambro of Rhode Island is the leader with 3,008 points, and the top five competitors are within 225 points heading into day two.
The IC4A/ECAC Championships resume Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
