LEWISBURG, Pa. -- During day two of the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University, the Virginia Military Institute women's water polo team split the day, falling 13-5 against Long Beach State University and rebounding in the night cap to top Notre Dame College 17-4 in the final game of the day.
The win over Notre Dame College at Kinney Natatorium goes into the record books as the first at the helm of the program for Ryan Pryor, who takes over the team in its fourth season.
The Keydets (1-2) scored three times in the first quarter from three different sources as Shelby Barkley, Cecilya Lundy and Mackenzie Perkins potted goals. Perkins led the Keydets with her second goal in the fourth quarter while Bailey Huddleston notched a marker in the same quarter.
Two hat tricks helped lead the Keydets over Notre Dame College in VMI's biggest offensive output of the young season. Huddleston struck once in each of the second, third and fourth quarters as Caitlyn Jackson scored in the first, second and fourth periods. Barkley, Celine Lazzaro, Haley Scott and Natalie Rivas all scored twice while Perkins, Ally Van Valen and Elise Reed logged one goal each.
VMI wraps up its first weekend on Sunday with an 11:45 a.m. game against the host Bison at Kinney Natatorium.
