VMI cross country will take part in this year's NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Friday, as the Keydets return to action after a two-week layoff. Action at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park gets underway at noon with the women's 6K, while the men's 10K is schedule for a 1 p.m. start.
How to Follow
Fans can follow along with the action via live results, provided by flashresults.com at the link to the left of this article.
Note: Fans are strongly encouraged to check the live results as a story is not expected to be posted until late Friday evening here on VMIKeydets.com.
Who's Running
The Keydets will send a full men's team with their top competitors to Louisville, but will send just two women's runners, veterans Michelle Church and Hannah Dickinson. Both will be running their final career cross country events, and Church will be running at the regional meet for the first time since 2012.
A Look Back
The Keydet men, historically, have seen a breakthrough performance at this meet each of the last two years. Andrey Dmitriev was 40th overall two seasons ago, while current Keydet Patrick Spahn finished 96th overall last year.
What's on the Line
The goal of this meet is for teams and individuals to advance to the NCAA Championship meet. That can happen via a team format or an individual method, as the top two teams at each regional meet advance (18 total teams). There are then 13 teams selected via an at-large method. Meanwhile, the top four finishers from each regional meet who do not advance via the team method will also qualify.
Next Up
Next up for the Keydets will be the 2014-15 indoor track season, with the schedule set for a release early next week.
