CHARLESTON, S.C. - On Saturday, the Virginia Military Institute rifle teams head to Charleston, S.C. to take on host The Citadel and fellow visitor Georgia Southern University. The Keydets split their results, with the women's team topping The Citadel 4,265-4,236, but the mixed team fell to the Bulldogs 4,450-4,424.

On the women's side, Loran Dreelin posted a combined 1,099 after shooting a 564 with an air rifle and a 535 across the three small bore positions. Emily Hill finished second for the Keydets with a 547 on air rifle and 511 on smallbore, combing for a 1,058 while Chih-Yuan Chen posted a 1,056 after shooting a 522 on air rifle and 534 on smallbore. Salena Chiep rounded out VMI's scoring with a combined 1,048, registering a 533 on air rifle and a 515 on smallbore.

The mixed team had a close result with its Citadel counterpart at the Bulldogs' Inouye Hall Marksmanship Center, falling by a difference of just 26 points. VMI combined for 2,172 on smallbore, led by Jeremy Bolden's 549 out of 600. Matthew Lusardi followed with a 546 while Justin Vietinghoff posted a 539. Andrew Hickey capped VMI's smallbore scoring with a 538. The Keydets were only 16 points behind The Citadel's smallbore score of 2,188.

In the air rifle portion of the mixed event, the Keydets notched a 2,252, with Bolden again leading VMI and posting the day's third-highest score with a 570. Vietinghoff was close behind with a 565 as Kristen Voss and Hickey were separated by just one point, the former shooting a 559 and the later a 558. VMI's counterparts narrowly edged out the Keydets with a 2,262.
