VMI Athletic Communications recently conducted a Q&A session with sophomore Kelsey Newcomb, the results of which are below. Newcomb and her cross country teammates will return to action Sept. 21, when they host the VMI Invitational at the Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista.
Major: Biology
When did you start in Cross Country/Distance Running (what age) and why: 8th grade because I wanted to do a high school sport.
Why VMI: I plan on commissioning, and I know the military are not laying people off. That will also ensure that my future family will be taken care of.
Favorite VMI memory: My favorite memory was probably our sweat party with my dyke, it was motivational yet fun.
Goals for this season: 2:09 in the 800 by the outdoor season.
Favorite TV show/book and why: My favorite book is, by far, "Born to Run". It was very motivational.

When surfing the Internet, what web site do you visit most frequently? Facebook
Favorite sport to watch (other than T&F): Baseball, I'm a huge Yankees fan.
If someone would look at the songs I have, on my IPOD or computer, I'd be embarrassed for them to see I have this song: The Situation by Escape The Fate (I went through a really dark phase musically in middle school)
If you could eat dinner with three other people, living or not, who would they be and why? Muhammad Ali, because he was one of the greatest fighters ever - Marilyn Monroe, she was a beautiful full figured woman who people look up to, and Phoebe Wright, because she is ,hands down, my favorite runner ever!!!
