ATHENS, Ga. - The VMI men's swimming and diving team currently sits in fourth place after day one of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships, which are taking place at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
The Keydets currently sit in fourth place with 108 points, trailing leader Davidson (266 pts.) as well as College of Charleston (232 pts.) and Gardner-Webb (222 pts.). Howard (71 pts.) and Florida A&M (27) round out the field of competing teams.
VMI was led by Dallas Disbro, who recorded a podium finish by placing third in the 3-meter diving event. Disbro recorded a score of 165.25 to notch the result. In addition, Ian Morales clocked in with a freshman record performance in the 50 free, finishing in 21.82 seconds. That gave him the 12th finishing position.
In addition, a pair of VMI relays swam seasonal-best times. The 200 free relay clocked in 5th in a time of 1:28.61. That squad was comprised of Chris Dreikorn, Thomas Brown, Matt Elliott and Morales, while the 400 medley relay (3:40.52) was also fifth in a seasonal-best time. That unit was Matt Dale, David Hayes, Benji Howard and James Goodwillie.
Finally, Kodiak Bowers swam a lifetime best in the 500 free (4:52.70) and finished 15th.
VMI will be back in action Saturday, with day two of the CCSA Championships. Action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
