Spangenberg Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

LEXINGTON, Va.- Following a season that saw him set new school records for hits, runs and total bases, Cory Spangenberg has been named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, as announced by Collegiate Baseball Wednesday.

Spangenberg (Clarks Summit, Pa.), who was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year, is just the third Keydet to be named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, joining Kelly Sweppenhiser (2003) and Travis Smink (2006).  This season, Spangenberg ranked among the top 10 in the Big South in seven different offensive categories including hits, runs, home runs, stolen bases and batting average.

A Second Team All-Conference selection at second base, Spangenberg became just the second player in school history to amass at least 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season, doing so by hitting 11 round-trippers and swiping 24 bags.  Against Big South opponents, he reached base safely in 28 of 30 contests, collecting hits in 26 games.

This summer, Spangenberg is competing in the Valley Baseball League with the Winchester (Va.) Royals.  Through four games in the wood bat league, he leads the circuit with 10 hits and a .588 batting average.
