VMI Baseball uses late-inning momentum to top William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – VMI Baseball picked up another non-conference victory after defeating in-state foe William & Mary on Tuesday at Plumeri Park.
 
The Keydets (22-6, 1-2 SoCon) pieced together a strong outing against the Tribe (12-15), tallying a 10-3 road victory. VMI scored eight of its 10 runs in the final four innings and ended its late surge with seven unanswered runs, and allowed no hits in the final three frames.

- VMI scored 10 runs off 12 hits.
- Grayson Fitzwater went three-for-five with four RBIs.
- Trace Monroe threw 2.2 no-hit innings in relief to get his third win.
- Hunter Sipe tossed a bulk of the game, going four innings with three strikeouts.
- Bradley Garner and Ayden Schnarrs scored three runs apiece.
- Owen Prince swiped two bags and scored twice.

Scoring Summary
Second Inning: The Keydets scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead before the Tribe got one run back to tie it.
Fourth Inning: Easton Ogle drove in a run off an infield single to regain the lead.
Sixth Inning: Both sides traded blows, starting with a Garner blast to left field. W&M retaliated with a pair of homers to tie the game at 3-3.
Seventh Inning: Fitzwater's single added one run, before Garner's sacrifice fly and Cook's RBI single plated two more.
Eighth Inning: Fitzwater drove in two more with an RBI single, extending VMI's lead to five.
Ninth Inning: The Keydets added insurance runs in the last frame. Kealo Smith crossed the plate off a Tribe miscue, then Fitzwater nabbed his 40th RBI this season on a single to right field that scored Schnarrs.
 
Next up for the Keydets
The Keydets host Wofford for a Southern Conference showdown. First pitch for Thursday and Friday is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday's series finale and Alzheimer's Awareness Game will begin at 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
