Mau Elevated to Associate Head Coach

LEXINGTON, Va.- The VMI baseball program has announced the promotion of Ryan Mau, entering his fifth season with the Keydets, to Associate Head Coach.

Mau, who also serves as the Keydets' recruiting coordinator and pitching coach, has helped the program to several milestone achievements during his tenure in Lexington.  Over the past four years, the Keydets have achieved their first-ever national ranking, had eight players, including four pitchers, drafted by MLB teams, and have brought in nationally-regarded recruiting classes each of the past two years.

“Ryan has been with me for five years now, and he understands the expectation level of this program,” said VMI head coach Marlin Ikenberry.  “He continues to do a standout job with our pitchers in developing them to not only succeed at VMI, but in also helping many of them transition to professional baseball.”

On the field, the Keydets have enjoyed great success on the mound during Mau's tenure.  The 2008 staff ranked among the top five in the nation in fewest walks allowed, while three of the past four seasons have resulted in the best ERA stats the program has posted in over 30 years.

A 2001 graduate of the College of Charleston, Mau has not only developed former Keydets Trey Barham, Corey Bachman, Michael Bowman and Travis Smink into MLB draftees, but also had two of his former pupils break into the major leagues in 2008, when R.J. Swindle and Bobby Parnell each made their professional debuts after their graduation from Charleston Southern, where Mau previously coached.

The Keydets kick off their 2010 schedule on Feb. 19, welcoming Bucknell to Gray-Minor Stadium for the first of a three-game set.  VMI is scheduled for 35 home games in 2010, including match-ups against ranked foes Virginia and Coastal Carolina in April.
