Page Pitches Liberty Past Baseball In Game Three, 6-1

LYNCHBURG, Va.? Senior southpaw Ryan Page collected his third career complete game by scattering seven hits as Liberty won the weekend series against VMI, 6-1.

Page (3-4) struck out eight and did not issue a free pass as the Flames (20-19, 8-4 Big South) came back to take the weekend after Saturday's 16-inning, 3-2 loss. The Keydets (20-19, 10-5 Big South) lost only their second Big South series of the year.

VMI grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Alex Haitsuka hit the first of his two doubles, then scored on Sam Roberts' infield single.

Keydet starter Michael Bowman (2-4) rolled through the early innings, mowing down the Flames by facing the minimum through four frames.

Bowman surrendered the lead in the fifth, when David Giammaresi led off the inning with a triple and scored on Garrett Young's ground out. The Flames took the lead for good in the sixth off of Bowman, when Tommy Bussey and Errol Hollinger scored on back-to-back singles, bringing the margin to 3-1.

VMI led off the sixth with a base knock from Tanner Biagini but left him stranded, as Page settled in to retire 12 of the final 13 batters that he faced.

Bowman was lifted in the seventh, as the junior right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. He also struck out six and walked his only two batters in the seventh, leading to his removal from the game.

Haitsuka's 2-for-3 day was the only multiple-hit outing for VMI, as the freshman catcher hit his fifth and sixth doubles of the season. The Flames got a pair of knocks from Hollinger, Giammaresi and Aaron Grijalva.

The Keydets play host to Coppin State this week, hosting the Eagles in 6 p.m. starts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
