LEXINGTON, Va. - The Radford Highlanders hit five of eight of shots from the floor in overtime and drained ten free throws in the extra session to pull away from VMI and post a 108-102 win Tuesday night at Cameron Hall.
Radford (7-15, 2-5 BSC) logged its second straight league win while VMI dropped its fifth straight conference game and fell to 10-11, 2-5 BSC.
The Highlanders placed five in double figures scoring and were led in scoring by senior guard Martell McDuffy who had 20 points. Also in double figures were junior guard Kenny Thomas (18), Joey Lynch-Flohr (16), Chris McEachin (16), and Alex Gynes (12).

Travis Holmes led VMI in scoring for the second straight game with 29 points while twin brother
Chavis Holmes had 23 points. Freshman guard
Christian Hunter added a career-high 17 points including five 3-pointers while junior forward
Willie Bell turned in his second double-double of the season with a 16-point, 11 rebounds effort.
The Keydets got off to a miserable start spotting Radford an 18-1 lead when Kenny Thomas hit a 3-pointer at the 13:37 mark. A
Quinn Brownfield trey 17 seconds later was VMI's first field goal of the game and the Highlanders assumed its largest lead of 18 points (22-4) on a Martell McDuffy dunk with 12:05 left in the half.
VMI would chip away at the deficit and outscored Radford, 32-19, the remainder of the half and trailed 41-36 at halftime.
The Keydets capitalized on Radford turnovers and overcame scoring prowess by McDuffy to take its first lead of the game following a 16-7 run early in the second half. VMI took its first lead of the game on a
Willie Bell 3-pointer from the top of the key to put VMI ahead, 60-59, with 12:19 left. VMI pushed its margin to double-digits and led by as many as 11 points at the 7:55 mark and still led by 10 (83-73) over a minute later when
Travis Holmes hit two free throws with 6:12 left.
Radford chopped the deficit to six (87-81) on a Thomas layup with 3:33 left that triggered a 7-1 run Highlander run for the remainder of regulation as Thomas nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing at :51 to tie the game at 88-88. A missed jumper by
Chavis Holmes and a missed 3-pointer by
Travis Holmes at the buzzer forced overtime.
The Highlanders took the lead for good when McEachin hit a pair of free throws with 3:10 left in overtime to put Radford ahead, 94-92. Despite missing eight free throws in OT, VMI could not capitalize as the Keydets shot four of 12 from the floor in overtime. VMI could pull no closer than 99-97 with 2:02 left when
Chavis Holmes canned a 3-pointer.
Radford outscored VMI 62-24 in the paint while the Keydets hit 19 of 49 beyond the arc for their second most triples of the season and most against a Division I opponent.
The Highlanders dominated the boards with a 55-28 advantage.
