Football Holds First Scrimmage

LEXINGTON, Va. - Rising sophomore slot back Tim Maypray scored three touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Joey Robinson rushed for two scores and threw for another as VMI Football held its first scrimmage of 2007 spring drills Saturday morning at Delaney Field.

Maypray, the 2006 Big South Freshman of the Year, scored on a six-yard sweep run and also teammed with Robinson for scoring strikes of 22 and 10 yards. Robinson would also add a 24-yard touchdown run to spark the offense.

Defensively, rising sophomore defensive back Levi Swindell took a tipped pass back 60 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore safety back Chris Ware and junior end Andy Viola also recovered fumbles in the scrimmage that was part of a two-hour practice session.

Key stats from the scrimmage as well as quotes from VMI head coach Jim Reid will be posted on Monday after video has been reviewed by the staff.
