WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- VMI traveled across the state to try and reverse its fortunes against intrastate foe William & Mary on Friday at Albert-Daly Field. However, a second half offensive outburst from the Tribe (2-4) enabled their ninth straight victory over the Keydets (1-3) and second win on this young season. After taking the lead on an own-goal in the first, the Tribe connected on four second-half scores to walk away with a 5-0 victory.

After netting just two goals on the season, William & Mary responded with five scores against the visiting Keydets, getting goals from four different players. For the Keydets, junior keeper John Sollock grabbed four saves in the contest.

Some misfortunes led to the first score of the contest, as VMI's Barrett Luxhoj tried to clear a ball away from the front of the net. Luxhoj's sliding attempt was unsuccessful as the ball caromed off him into the net for a Keydets own-goal. Despite giving up the goal, VMI trailed by just one heading into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Tribe, however, as they rattled off three straight scores in a span of 3:05 to cushion their lead. William & Mary's Andrew Hoxie took advantage of a failed clearance by VMI as he connected on his second goal of the season. Just 20 seconds later, the Tribe's Price Thomas took advantage of another Keydet mistake as he hammered home his first goal of the season.

On a restart in the 63rd minute, Chris Wayne also netted his first season goal by converting a free kick from outside the box. Nathan Belcher would round out the game scoring by putting back a deflected shot past Sollock in the 86th minute.

VMI managed to fire off 12 shots in the contest, but couldn't find the back of the net for just the fifth time in two seasons. Charles Nweke and Addison Palanza led the Keydet offense with four and three shots, respectively.

Up next for the Keydets will be a home contest at Patchin Field against Liberty on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. The game will mark the opening of the Big South schedule for the Keydets, and the second conference match for the Flames (1-2).
