VMI Suffers 2-0 Loss to High Point

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The High Point Panthers connected on goals in each half on Saturday night as they defeated VMI 2-0 in men's soccer action at Richard Vert Track & Soccer Stadium. The Panthers' Chris Archer netted both goals in the contest as High Point handed the Keydets their fourth straight loss.

With the win, High Point improves to 2-6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big South, while VMI falls to 2-8 overall, and 0-3 in league play.

The Panthers doubled up the Keydets in shots and corners for the match, 10-5 and 8-4, respectively. HPU's Adam Ross and Daniel Clark combined for four saves to earn the shutout win, while VMI's John Sollock also registered four saves in goal for the Keydets.

After a relatively slow start to today's contest, the Panthers opened the scoring in the 29th minute of play. High Point senior Chris Archer picked up his seventh goal of the season as he converted a Dan Haywood corner kick.

In the second half, Archer picked up his eighth goal of the season in the 84th minute when he again converted off a corner kick, this time from freshman midfielder Hilaire Babou. High Point's defense kept VMI off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, as the Panthers snapped a three-game losing skid with the shutout win.

The Keydets had a hard time generating offense in today's match, only managing five shots against the Panthers. After scoring four goals in two contests against Liberty and Campbell, the Keydets have netted just two scores in their past four matches.

The Keydets will now return home after a three-game road trip as they host Lexington neighbor Washington & Lee University on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The game will take place at Patchin Field beginning at 4 p.m.
