Fields Named Big South Co-Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior outfielder Jacoby Fields (Prince George, Va./Prince George) enjoyed one of the finest series of his career in the team's season finale, going 9-for-10 with five runs scored and three RBI as VMI took two of three against #16 Winthrop last weekend. For his effort, Fields was named Big South Conference Choice Hotels co-Player of the Week for the final week of regular-season games, as announced by the League office Monday afternoon.

On the week, Fields batted .714 (10-14), including a 1-for-4 outing against James Madison on Wednesday. In VMI's first-ever series win over a ranked opponent, Fields had multiple hits in each contest, while also helping the Keydets complete their first 30-win season. He also had a walk in every game over the weekend, including an intentional walk in game two after going 5-for-5 to open the series. Fields had hits in his first seven at-bats against the Eagles, going 3-for-3 in game one, 4-for-4 with three runs in game two and finishing 2-for-3 in the finale. On the week, he had two doubles, an .857 slugging percentage and a .765 on-base percentage.

Fields shares the honor with High Point's Randy Schwartz, who hit .750 to help the Panthers to a series win over Liberty, clinching the fourth seed in the Big South Championship, to begin on Wednesday. HPU's Eammon Portice earned New Balance Pitcher of the Week honors by notching 10 strikeouts in eight innings in a victory over the Flames.
