Sweppenhiser Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior third baseman Kelly Sweppenhiser has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 13-19, it was announced today by the League office. It marks the second straight week a Keydet has received the honor, after Klint Reed earned Co-Player of the Week honors last Wednesday.

Sweppenhiser (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) batted .600 (6-10) in two wins last week, with five runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one home run, six runs batted in, a 1.300 slugging percentage and .636 on-base average. He hit for what is believed to be the Keydets' first cycle in at least 20 years in VMI's 10-8 win over Coppin State, finishing 4-4 with four RBI and three runs. Sweppenhiser added two hits and two RBI in the series opener as well.

Earlier in the week, he was also named to the College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll. He leads the League with an .824 slugging percentage, while his 12 runs scored are tied with Reed for the most in the Big South as well. He is currently hitting .441 with eight RBI, five doubles and two home runs.
