Jacksonville, Fla. - The Keydets men's soccer team lost their second straight contest on Sunday, falling to Stetson University 6-1 in the JU Adidas Invitational.
The Keydets (2-2-0) jumped out to an early start in Sunday's match in Jacksonville against Stetson (1-3-0), but were unable to hold off a six goal outburst by the Hatters in the second half.
VMI junior forward Michael Lloyd (Saline, Mich./Saline) got the Keydets on the board midway through the first half, re-directing a free kick from Kevin Aldrich (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) into the back of the net giving them an early 1-0 lead, one they controlled until halftime. The goal was the first of the season for Lloyd, who was VMI's second leading scorer last year with 14 points (7 goals).
However, things didn't continue as well for VMI in the second half, as they surrendered a season-high six goals en route to a 6-1 loss. Recording goals for the Hatters were Armante Marshall (2), Tanner Wolfe (2), Alex Minton and Kirk Labusch, with assists coming from Jeff Smeraglinolo, Wolfe, Labusch and Marshall, respectively. Today's game gave Wolfe a team high nine points on the year.
The Keydets have the week off to regroup from their trip and get ready for William & Mary, whom they play on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Patchin Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
