William & Mary Takes Down Men's Soccer 2-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- The VMI men's soccer team suffered its first defeat Saturday evening, falling 2-1 to William & Mary at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg.

William & Mary (1-1) got on the board first, as Brendan McCurdy's goal in the 33rd minute stood as the only scoring in the first half of play.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Colin Young would add to that score for the Tribe after corralling a loose ball on the left side and beating VMI keeper Thomas Upton for what would turn out to be the game-winner.

The Keydets (1-1) fought back and managed a goal in the 87th minute, when freshman Josh Hanna scored the first goal of his career.

VMI out-shot W&M 10-7 and had a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks, however, could put only three of those shots on goal. W&M keeper Kris Rake had two saves in the contest, while VMI sophomore keeper Thomas Upton made one save on the night.

VMI returns to action Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to take on Mount St. Mary's. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
