VMI Lacrosse Gets All Wet in 12-8 Loss at Holy Cross


Worcester, Mass. -- The VMI lacrosse team was defeated by Holy Cross, 12-8 in a steady rainfall at the Hart Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.

VMI (0-11, 0-7 MAAC) spotted the Crusaders a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter as Holy Cross scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game and another in the final second of the quarter.

Holy Cross (5-8) scored four more goals in the second quarter to make the halftime score, 8-3. Keydet sophomore midfielder Tony Cavalero (Annandale, Va./ Annandale) scored his second and third goals of the game in the second quarter to keep the Keydets close.

The Crusaders scored four more in the third as VMI scored three, making the score, 12-6. In the fourth quarter VMI sophomore attackman Will Collier (Centreville, Va./ Woodberry Forest) scored his third a fourth goals of the game (a career-high) to close the score at 12-8.

The Keydets failed on all seven extra-man opportunities in the game. VMI did defeat Holy Cross in the ground ball war, 36-27.

VMI was led in scoring by Collier's four goals. Cavalero scored three goals. Sophomore midfielder Robert Trimble (Oak Hill, Va./ Oakton) scored a goal and notched two assists.
Sophomore attackman Billy Klotz led the Crusaders with four goals.

Keydet sophomore goalkeeper Dan Frank (Bel Air, Md./ C. Milton Wright) made six saves in relief during the second half. HC senior goalie Brian Hodgdon made an astounding 18 saves on the day.

The Keydets will conclude their season on Friday afternoon in beautiful Loudonville, N.Y. Face-off is set for 4:00.
