W&L Dominates VMI in Lee-Jackson Lacrosse Classic,

Lexington, Va. -- The Washington & Lee lacrosse team outshot VMI, 42-29 and picked up 14 more ground balls (50-36) as the Generals cruised to a 15-4 victory in the 17th Annual Lee-Jackson Classic at the W&L Astroturf Field on Wednesday night.

The Generals (8-3, 3-0 ODAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as freshman midfielder Matt Arcati scored 4:11 into the game. The Keydets quickly equaled the game as sophomore attackman Will Collier (Centreville, Va./ Woodberry Forest) scored off a pass from fellow freshman attackman Robert Trimble (Oak Hill, Va./ Oakton) to knot the game just 52 seconds later. W&L tallied twice later in the quarter to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the stanza.

The Keydets (0-8, 0-5 MAAC) scored first in the second quarter when junior midfielder Erik Rohrmann (Ridgefield, Conn./ Ridgefield) scored an unassisted goal with 11:41 left in the half to cut the lead to 3-2. The Generals then scored the game's next eight goals (five in the second quarter and three in the third) to take a commanding 11-2 lead at the end of the third quarter. Senior attackman Matt Fink led the way for the Generals in that run, scoring four goals.

W&L outscored the Keydets 4-2 in the second quarter as the the Generals took the 11-goal win. VMI sophomore midfielder Joe Picariello (Sandwich, Mass./ Merrimack College) and freshman attackman Connor Petter (Niskayuna, N.Y./ Niskayuna) both netted the twine for the Keydets. Petter's tally was the first of his career.

VMI sophomore midfielder Tony Cavalero (Annandale, Va./ Annandale) was VMI's recipient of the Worrell-Fallon Award which honors the most valuable player of each team. Cavalero picked up nine ground balls and won 11 of 20 face-offs. W&L senior goalkeeper Ansel Sanders was the named the Generals' recipient, making 12 saves on the night.

Keydet goalkeeper Matt Hook (Catonsville, Md./ Catonsville) made seven saves in three quarters of play.

Trimble led the Keydets in scoring with two assists. Fink led the way for the Generals with four goals and two assists.

The Keydets will look for their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to MAAC rival Marist. Face-off is set for 1:00 at Patchin Field.
