Georgetown Blanks VMI Football, 21-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior quarter Andrew Crawford threw for 188 yards and a score and rushed for 64 yards and another touchdown to lead Georgetown to a 21-0 win over VMI before a homecoming crowd of 2,874 spectators at Harbin Field Saturday afternoon.

The Hoyas (2-4) snapped a four game losing skid by controlling the football for 41:13 of the contest. VMI possessed the ball only 18:47 for four quarters.

All of the game's scoring took place in the first half. The Hoyas took the opening drive 65 yards in nine plays and capped it when Crawford scrambled for a seven yard TD run. The senior from Superior, Colorado carried three times for 20 yards and completed two passes to tight end Glenn Castergine for 33 yards on the possession.

The Hoyas doubled the score to 14-0 when tailback Kim Sarin flipped a halfback pass 28 yards to Janeiro Wooten for a score at the 5:56 mark of the first quarter, capping a six-play 60-yard drive.

Georgetown closed out the scoring on a bizarre play when on a third and 16 from the GU41, Crawford picked up a shotgun snap over his head, eluded VMI defenders and found Castergine all alone at the VMI 10 yard line. The tight end caught the pass and bulled into the endzone despite the efforts of VMI defenders who had caught up on the play.

VMI (0-6) failed to net a first down in the first quarter and gained only two first downs to Georgetown's 18 in the first half. The Keydets were limited to 19 snaps in the first half.

The Keydets' best threat of the day to score occurred late in the game when VMI moved to the GU nine-yard line, but saw the drive end on downs at the 12 at the 6:36 mark.

Senior quarterback David Poldiak, making his second start of the season, completed 14 of 28 passes for 126 yards and was intercepted once. The Keydets were outgained 490-156 and netted 30 yards on the ground.

John Puvogel led VMI receivers with five catches for 58 yards while Zohn Burden snagged three catches for 19 yards, extending his consecutive game reception streak to 18 games along with teammate Gary Price, who caught one pass for eight yards.

Hoya tailback Kim Sarin led all rushers with a career-high 180 yards on 31 carries.

VMI defenders Adrian Cmerek and Jack Herzog both recovered fumbles for the Keydets while Jamaal Walton snagged an interception in the second half.
