Men's Soccer Falls to Coastal Carolina

LEXINGTON, Va.- Jordie Hughes and Mubarike Chisoni each scored two goals as Coastal Carolina handed VMI a 5-0 loss Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference play at Patchin Field.

Hughes had a hand in all three first-half goals for Coastal (8-6-1, 2-3 Big South), as he scored the first goal in the fourth minute after a pass from Boyzzz Khumalo, then assisted on a Randy Owen goal in the 12th minute. Twelve minutes later, Hughes netted his seventh goal of the season, an unassisted score after a rebound on a team save.

VMI (9-6-1, 2-3-1 Big South) trailed 3-0 at the break, but could not break the Coastal pressure in the second half. In the 73rd minute, Chisoni was awarded a penalty kick, which he converted, then scored his 11th goal of the season just four minutes later.

Coastal keeper Jeremy Wolfgang made five saves to preserve the shutout, while VMI keeper Thomas Upton made six saves in the contest. Coastal outshot VMI by a 19-8 margin in the match, while VMI had seven corner kicks to Coastal's three.

VMI will return to action Friday afternoon, when they host Birmingham Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Patchin Field.
