Biography

ONE-YEAR LETTERMAN - Has seen action at defensive end and linebacker and will now be slotted in the inside linebacker position in the new 3-4 alignment...a tough, hard-nosed competitor who is looking to get back on the field after having last season shortened by injury...is also a key contributor to special teams...listed at "Mike" linebacker on the depth chart.

2007 - Did not see game action and was sidelined by a shoulder injury sustained in Spring 2007 drills.

2006 - Saw action throughout the season and saw playing time increase as the year progressed...lettered as a true freshman...finished the year with 33 tackles including 17 solos and 16 assists...saw considerable action against Richmond and posted a season-high ten tackles with six solos...started in the nationally televised game against Army and had six tackles and a half tackle for loss...logged five tackles against Liberty and four tackles against JMU.   

HIGH SCHOOL - A graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va....lettered three years at linebacker and also played wide receiver...posted a school record 144 tackles in 2005...First Team All-State (VISFA)...second-leading tackler in Northern Virginia in ’05...had 17 tackles and 1 interception vs. Collegiate in state playoff game...served as team captain...lettered in track and threw the shot and discus...National Honor Society...coached by Dick Allanson.

PERSONAL - Full name is Michael Ballinger Hutchings...father is Col. Eric Hutchings, VMI ‘77 – a former lineman for the Keydets who captained the 1976 team and serves as Chief of Staff in the Athletic Department... International Studies major.
