Coach Danny Rocco announced the addition of Mike Newton to the staff in the summer of 2025. 

Newton will coach the running backs and brings 16 seasons of coaching experience to the Keydets. A native of South Carolina, Newton began his career at Newberry College before finishing his playing career at the University of South Carolina where he would see time on special teams and at safety, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor's in Sport and Enterainment Management. 

Newton has experience at all three levels of College Football as well as the XFL (Las Vegas Vipers) and Germany (Munich German Football Team). Newton brings four years of offensive coordinator experience, four years of quarterback coaching experience and five years as a special teams coordinator.

Newton is joined by his wife, Joanna.
