Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell begins his fifth season at VMI, continuing to coach the Keydet offensive line and serve as offensive coordinator.

Campbell was a main figure in the installation of VMI’s current pro-style offense, a set implemented prior to the 2010 season. He brings a wealth of football experience to VMI including eight years as a player in the NFL professional ranks. Campbell also played for Coach Woods and was a teammate of Eric Brown at the University of South Carolina in the early 90's.

After playing tight end for the Gamecocks from 1990-93, Campbell was invited to participate in the Senior Bowl and attended the NFL combine. Campbell then embarked on his NFL career which began with the New Orleans Saints and then on to the Carolina Panthers where he was one of the original players in the expansion franchise's initial season in 1995. Campbell signed as a free agent as a tight end with the Panthers and played in 10 games and started two contests in the 1995 debut season , then moved to offensive line in 1996 and played in 59 games and started 56 as an offensive guard or tackle through the 2001 season. He was named the Panthers Offensive Player of the Game five times while at Carolina.

Campbell closed out his professional football career with stints with the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans.Campbell served as offensive line coach and co-coordinator and Bluffton High School in Bluffton, South Carolina and coached for three seasons. He also helped start the athletics program at Cross Episcopal School and served as its athletic director from 2005 to 2007.

A native of North Augusta, South Carolina, Campbell has also launched two successful business ventures including a high definition video equipment leasing company which he still owns. Campbell received his undergraduate degree in human services from the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.

Campbell and his wife, Jeanene have four children - Hunter, Madelyn, Jacob and Matt.
