Jones was an early addition to Rocco's staff, serving as the Running Backs Coach in 2023. Jones, who added Run Game Coordinator to his title last season will serve as the team's Recruiting Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach in 2025.

Hunter Rice, who finished the season fourth in the nation in rushing touchdowns with 14. In 2024, Rice earned All-SoCon Second Team honors ranking third in the league in touchdowns (7) and yards (800), finishing his career with 30 rushing touchdowns which ranks second all-time at VMI. Jones also helped mix in a pair of impact freshman in Aslin Shipe and Leo Boehling, who figure to be fixtures moving forward.Â
A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Kenyon College (DIII), Jones has coaching experience at the Division I, Division III and high school levels.
Jones joins VMI after time spent at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, where he was the team's pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach, helping the program reach the Division 2-AA Semifinals.
Prior to Franklin Road, Jones worked for Vanderbilt as a graduate assistant for offensive line while attaining his master's degree. Responsible for scouting report breakdowns, Jones helped coach players such as 2019 NFL Draft pick Justin Skule while recruiting for the University.
Jones got his coaching start where he played his collegiate ball, working his way up to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in his last two years at Kenyon (2016-18).
