Dylan Almond enters his first season as a defensive quality control coach at VMI.

He comes to VMI after serving this past season on the coaching staff at nearby Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia, where he served as an assistant special teams coordinator and assistant defensive backs coach.

Almond helped oversee the cornerbacks, safeties, nickels and all special teams units through on-field instruction and film evaluation. He also created and organized weekly opponent film breakdowns and scouting reports for special teams and defense. He coached a secondary that accounted for 11 of the defense’s 15 turnovers, six interceptions and five fumble recoveries.

A two-year football letterwinner at Southern Virginia, Almond played as a sophomore in 2019 and as a junior during the covid spring 2021 season. During his junior year, he sustained an injury that required surgery and ultimately forced him to miss his senior year in the fall of 2021, leading to his start in coaching as a student assistant.

Almond played wide receiver and on special teams, starting every game of his career. He was also named to the ODAC Academic All-Conference team during the fall of 2020 and spring 2021.

He graduated from Southern Virginia with a bachelor's degree in business management and leadership in 2021.
