Ben Housewright enters his first season as the offensive quality control coach and assistant wide receivers coach at VMI.
 
In this role, he organizes cut ups and assists the offensive coordinator in organizing drawings for the playbook, inputs games into XOS with opponent game information, maps formations and bunch formation tendencies, specializes in down and distance, formations in opponent breakdown and printing and distributing scouting reports to the offensive coaches.
 
He comes to the Institute by way of Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where he served as the assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant recruiting coordinator since June of 2020.
 
Among many roles, his primary duties included assisting the offensive staff with preparing weekly game plans and practice schedules, specializing in skill blocking, route tags and all motions in opponent breakdown and self-scouting. He also assisted the recruiting coordinator in setting up weekend visits and tours. For quarterback coaching duties, Housewright set up daily quarterback drills, helped the offensive coordinator with practice planning, and assisted with quarterback meetings alongside the offensive coordinator.
 
Prior to his time at Carson-Newman, Housewright served as the head football coach at Daniel Boone Middle School in Gray, Tennessee, from 2018-20, and as an assistant football coach at Daniel Boone High School during the same time frame.
 
Housewright earned an associate’s degree in sport management from Northeast State Community College in Blountville, Tennessee, in May 2020, before going on to achieve a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in sport management from Carson-Newman in May 2022.
