VMI Men’s XC takes second at Shenandoah Twilight Open

WINCHESTER, Va. – The VMI men's cross country team achieved excellent marks to place second overall at the 2026 Shenandoah Twilight Open hosted Friday evening at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Virginia.

Roanoke College took home the top honors with 32 team points while the Keydets were close behind with 48. Neighbor W&L came in third with 62 points followed by Bridgewater with 121 points. Six other schools competed in the race.

VMI senior Patrick Lowry came in sixth place overall with a 6K time of 20:22.1 while freshman Zachary Schubert arrived second for the Keydets in eighth place in 20:23. Sophomore Cameron Lambert placed ninth overall in 20:26 while Timothy Renquist finished 12th in 20:49. Freshman Bryce Edmonson also scored team points for the Keydets as he finished 13th overall in 20:49.

Also competing for VMI were runners William Byrnes, Camden Gonzales, Colin Crenshaw, Peter Fiorillo and Elijah Savoie.

"Wow! 1st and 2nd for women and men! I couldn't be more excited for both groups. With the women, Jillian led the group and didn't let it go. She ended up winning the race and ran a personal best; all to lead the program to their first win in a while. With the guys not to be outdone, Patrick led the guys to a second-place program finish. They believe they can win and with the leadership of Coach Elisabeth, she is positioning them to continue to have a special season."
