VMI defeats Randolph 2-1

LEXINGTON, Va – The VMI men's soccer team took down the visiting Randolph WildCats 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Patchin Field.
 
With the win, VMI improves to 3-1-0 on the young season while the WildCats remain at 0-0 as the contest was an exhibition match for the visitors.
 
VMI opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a goal by senior Yeirin Mejia, who tallied his third goal of the season off an assist by freshman Jaden Moore. The Keydets struck again in shortly after in the 32nd minute with a goal by senior Jesse Lee, who was assisted by sophomore Sam Dowdy on a deep free kick into the Randolph box. 
 
The Keydets and the WildCats would go scoreless during the early part of the second frame, before a Randolph penalty kick goal in the 63rd minute brought the score to 2-1. That tally would remain for the duration of the second half, and VMI would come away with the victory. 
 
Junior goalkeeper Ben Bruzonic had two saves in the contest.
