Keydets bounce back to top Highlanders

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team evened the series with the Radford Highlanders as the Keydets earned an 11-6 win over the visitors Saturday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.
 
The Keydets (18-4) used a huge fourth inning to pull away from the Highlanders (9-10). VMI led by a 4-2 score after three innings then scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to build a commanding 10-2 lead.
 

 
Key Stats
*VMI pitcher Eli Tyndall pitched 6.1 innings and allowed just six hits to go with two strikeouts and two earned runs
*Cole Raile had a big day at the plate by earning three hits on five at-bats – including a home run - to bring in two RBI while rounding the bases three times himself
*Cole Cook had three hits on four at-bats to bring in one RBI and scoring two runs himself
*First baseman Grayson Fitzwater had two hits for the day to bring in two RBI to go with one run, while Ayden Schnarrs had two RBI on one hit in addition to one run scored
*Radford's Junho Son had the best day at the plate for the Highlanders as he had two hits at two at-bats to score two RBI to go with one run himself. Hunter Keen scored two RBI on a home run in one at-bat
 
Game Summary
After surrendering two runs to start the game, the Keydets scored one run in the bottom of the first inning when Ayden Schnarrs grounded out to bring home Owen Prince.
 
Raile homered to right field in the second inning to knot the score at 2-2 after two.
 
VMI pulled ahead by two runs in the third when Seth Buchanan singled to right to advance Cole Raile to third and bring home Bradley Garner. Buchanan was then caught stealing at second, but brought in Raile in the process to put VMI up, 4-2, after three innings.
 
VMI went nuclear in the fourth inning to score six runs and blow up the lead to 10-2. Cole Cook scored when Schnarrs was walked, then a Fitzwater double to right brought home Owen Prince and Gabe Jenkins. A Bradley Garner single brought in Schnarrs to make the score 8-2, then a Raile single scored Fitzwater for a 9-2 VMI advantage. Raile took advantage of faulty Radford fielding after he stole third then advanced home on an error by the catcher for an unearned run.
 
Cole Cook homered to center in the seventh inning for VMI's final run of the game.
