VMI falls to ETSU

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team kept pace with league leader ETSU for much of the contest but came up short in the second half as the Bucs prevailed by an 87-70 score Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall.
 
The Keydets (6-19, 1-11) were down just 40-33 at the half but the Bucs (18-7, 10-2) scored 10 unanswered points right off the bat in the second half to build an insurmountable 17-point lead to force a VMI timeout with 17:15 to play.
 
VMI cut the deficit to eight points at 66-58 with 8:45 remaining following a pair of Kaden Stuckey free throws, but ETSU regained the momentum with timely baskets to rebuild its lead to 19 points with five minutes remaining to officially put the game out of reach.
 
Key Stats
*Stuckey finished the game with a career-high 13 points as he went 4-9 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe
*Linus Holmstrom finished with a team-high 20 points by hitting six three-pointers. Tan Yildizoglu also finished in double figures with 12 points
*ETSU's Blake Barkley achieved a double-double by logging a game-high 22 points to go with 12 rebounds
*Cam Morris III (16), Maki Johnson (15) and Jordan McCullum (12) also reached double digits. Johnson went 5-6 from three-point range, including 4-4 in the first half
