Keydets battle hard in loss to Wofford

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team showed toughness and fight to one of the league's best teams but came up short Wednesday night as visiting Wofford earned an 81-67 win over the Keydets at Cameron Hall.

The Keydets (6-18, 1-10) fell behind 44-27 at the half to the Terriers (16-8, 8-3) but fought back in the second half and came within 10 with two minutes left in regulation.

Game Summary
VMI's TJ Johnson pulled the Keydets to within 11 points, 61-50, with 10:27 left to play to force a Wofford timeout. Wofford's Cayden Vasko – who finished with a game-high 26 points – pushed the Terrier lead back to 14 on an And-1 effort coming out of the timeout.

With 2:53 left in the game, VMI's Kaden Stuckey – who logged a season-high 10 points – earned a basket in the paint to cut the deficit to 74-63, but Wofford's Nils Machowski responded with a three-pointer on the other end to again put the Terriers up by 14.

Moments later, Johnson earned a bucket in the paint to make the score 77-67 with under 2:00, but Vasko hit a pair of free throws to quell VMI's late push and put the game out of reach.
