VMI Baseball opens series with 8-2 win

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball picked up its eighth-straight home victory after defeating Stonehill in the series opener Friday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.

Despite going down early, the Keydets (8-1) picked up the pace in the middle innings to take down the Skyhawks, 8-2. All eight of VMI's runs came between the fifth and seventh innings.

Key Stats
- VMI earned eight runs off nine hits with six RBIs.
- Carson Taylor was brilliant out of the bullpen, going 3.1 innings with four strikeouts to get his first collegiate win.
- Cole Cook homered for the fifth time this season, ending the day with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs.
- Kazuya Jordan returned to the lineup and produced big at-bats, going two-for-three with a double and a pair of runs and a stolen base.

Scoring Summary
- Stonehill threw the first punch with a two-run homer in the third inning.
- VMI's fifth, sixth, and seventh innings provided enough insurance to capture the lead and contain it. Max Perry drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, followed by a 390-foot bomb by Cook over the scoreboard to take a 3-2 advantage after five.
- In the sixth inning, Jordan doubled in one run, stole third, and scored on a throwing error to help the Keydets go up by three runs.
- After Grayson Fitzwater walked in one run, Bradley Garner's sacrifice fly scored one more before Cook crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
