LEXINGTON, Va. – After scoring 19 goals to help lead VMI Water Polo to a 3-1 record in this past weekend's Macalester Invite, Sydney Smith was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Wednesday.

In Saturday's opening contest against Augustana, Smith paced the team with five goals, adding two steals, a drawn exclusion and a field block. In VMI's 15-9 victory over Carthage, the senior had three goals, two steals and two drawn exclusions.

Smith continued to shine on Sunday, scoring a season-high six goals to go along with three assists, three steals and two drawn exclusions in a win over Grove City. The McLean, Virginia, native saved her best for last, scoring three fourth-quarter goals to lead the Keydets to a 13-12 win over host Macalester. For the game, Smith had five goals and two drawn exclusions.

Smith now sits at 199 career goals scored, which ranks third all-time at VMI, and 189 drawn exclusions which is second in program history.
