Dunham wins 2026 Three-Legged Stool Award

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Keydet Club announced on February 7 that VMI Wrestling senior Dyson Dunham is the recipient of the 2026 Three-Legged Stool Award.

The honor is given to a cadet-athlete each year who exemplifies the three core values of VMI: academics, military leadership, and athletics.

Bringing the three-legged stool means a lot to me because it offers me the opportunity to repay my coaches for all the time they have invested in me.

I’m very proud of Dyson. This award reflects who he is every day. He has meant so much to our program and exemplifies what it means to be a cadet-athlete. As much as I’ve enjoyed watching him develop, I’m even more excited to see what he accomplishes after graduation.
Head Coach Jim Gibson

Dunham, a civil engineering major and a two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll recipient, will be commissioning into the Army Corps of Engineers with hopes of being a combat engineer.

My biggest role models by far have to be my parents, giving me the layout for what I should strive to be and achieve.

Advice I’d give to future cadet athletes would definitely be to buy into the VMI system and connect with your brother rats and dykes to grow those relationships and experiences.
