LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men's Swimming & Diving picked up where it left off with a dominating 214-86 triumph over Howard at Goodall Pool on Friday.
Despite the Keydets' last outing being two months ago, VMI never wavered en route to a near sweep by having a first-place finisher in 14 of the 16 events. The Keydets move to 3-3 overall and earn their second win over Howard this season.
The 200 Medley Relay squad, consisting of
Sam Castle,
Layne Tucker,
Ian Lutz, and
Matthew Picard, scored the first win of the day, crossing the finish line in 1:30.04. The 200 Free Relay team with Picard, Castle, Lutz, and
Joshua Wolf sped their way to first to cap off the day (1:22.81).
Earning multiple first-place marks were
Caleb Wolf in the 1,000 Free (9:47.32) and 500 Free (4:43.55),
Jack Mills in the 200 Free (1:40.43) and 200 IM (1:53.27), Lutz in the 50 Free (20.58) and 50 Fly (22.06), and Castle in the 50 Back (23.44) and 100 Back (51.26).
Tucker picked up a win in the 50 Breast (25.84), while
Max Brunner claimed victory in the 100 Fly (50.37), but not before Picard placed first in the 100 Free (45.20).
On the boards,
Lane Jones tallied a tight win in the three-meter dive with 254.78 points. Right behind Jones was freshman teammate
Dorian Albee, who smashed the Rat three-meter record with 253.35 points.
Next Up
The Keydets host the final dual meet of the season next Saturday against cross-town rival, Washington & Lee. The program will also honor its seniors before the meet begins at 2 p.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
