LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men's Soccer opens its longest homestand of the campaign on Wednesday against Ferrum.
With three home matches at Patchin Field on the horizon, the Keydets (1-4-2) have an opportunity to flip the script ahead of conference play. Among the upcoming opponents, VMI picked up key results against two last season, and will face one for the first time in program history.
Keys to the Keydets
Keydets Share Goals with Blue Devils. VMI earned a 2-2 draw against Central Connecticut State on the road.
Goal Scorers. Conner Reid secured his first goal of the season in the first half, followed by
Thimson Duolo, who scored his second goal of the campaign early in the second frame.
Dishing It Out. Jesse Lee put up a pair of brilliant assists to lift the Keydets to a tie. Lee's two assists are a season-high and bring his team-leading total to three, which now ranks 34th in the country.
Racking Minutes. Zack Murphy ranks 23rd nationally with 585 goalie minutes played. He sits fifth in program history with over 3,600 minutes played.
Young Stat Leaders. All three goal leaders are freshmen, with
Rowen Choi,
Jack Yough, and
Thimson Duolo boasting two goals apiece.
Life Saver. Zack Murphy ranks in the top 10 among DI goalies with 28 saves and in the top 50 with four saves per game.
National Ranks. VMI ranks in the top 50 with 34 total points, 12 total goals, and six corner kicks per game.
SoCon Ranks. VMI ranks first with 41 corner kicks, 31 saves, and 4.43 saves per game.
Year 4. Head Coach
Nick Regan returns for his fourth season at the helm. Regan has collected 13 victories, ranking third all-time.
Scouting the Panthers
- Ferrum enters the matchup 2-0 after defeating Shaw and Erskine.
- This will be the Panthers' first road test of 2025.
- Ferrum jumped to NCAA D-II and joined the Conference Carolinas in July 2025 after spending its previous affiliation in D-III and the ODAC. Ferrum is at the beginning of its two-year transition period.
- The Panthers' roster has seven seniors, six juniors, seven sophomores, and 14 freshmen.
- Jonathan Nicacio returns to the roster after leading Ferrum with seven goals last season.
- Payton Rausch has picked up where he left off last season, striking a pair of goals in two matches.
- Michael Arzillo has started twice between the posts, tallying nine saves.
- Head Coach Matt Cureton took over the helm in 2021 as his first head coaching gig.
